Green Tea Muffins…

Stuff 1952 (Small)

It's been a bittersweet past few days—my project review for the book was a smash, phone calls and emails with friends, organizing classes for later this fall, things are really moving and I don't want to take it for granted.  On the other hand, my dad is sick and it seems to have gotten worse the past few days, so that's weighing heavy on my mind.  Could you send some good healing energy his way?  Thanks in advance.

Two nights ago, I made a batch of soup and some  Green Tea muffins to go with it.  I've been wanting to try these for oh, say, three years now!  Katie picked me up some "matcha" (green tea powder) the other day at the international grocery store  Love the intense green color!

Ok, got a little carried away with the "green." I first tried green tea muffins in China (even though I think it's a Japanese thing).  It was out in Changshu at a Kenny Roger's Roasters restaurantt (very random), believe it or not!  Of course the restaurant closed down not too long after we got there.  So I've pretty much been hungry for them since…

Could not resist this cutie plate at the dollar store!  I found the recipe by googling "green tea muffin recipe".  Thank you Collection of Words for posting this great recipe.  I didn't have hazelnuts, but they still were awesome.  I'm making another batch in the morning to take out to a friends house for lunch.  Looking forward to that!

Apartment Therapy…

I was just on the Apartment Therapy site and found some jewelry love that I had to share:

09_HotNot_Tree1

Necklace for your tree! If only I had a yard….  Check out the skinny here.  It triggered a memory of that SNL skit where Christopher Walken (who I adore) was afraid of plants and glued googly eyes to each one in his green house.  Kind of hard to explain, but you can imagine.

In other news, the review of my book projects was today so I've pretty much been going through the day with that in the back of my mind.  A long to-do list tonight, and Rock giving me the stink eye because he wants to go outside, so I gotta run.  Though he looks innocent and petite, he is demanding and he always wins!

I’m Chill Like Dat!

I forgot how much I love the song "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" by Digable Planets. Thank you Eilts family for reminding me about that one.  Have any song recommendations?  My iPod needs a boost.  Help!  I like anything…

Felty Fiesta…

Since we're getting all felty with it….Check out my Felty Fiesta necklace using Ornamentea's felt loops in the October issue of Simply Beads magazine!  The loops are fun to stitch on.

This would also look pretty cool in bracelet form.  Next time, I'm going to try needle felting some polka dots and stripes around the sides of the loops and then stitch beads on top.

Hi and Hello and a some Felt Rings….

Stuff 642 (Small)

I hate going this long in between blog posts so the first thing I wanted to say is sorry.  The days are absolutely flying by between work, talking to Butch, and catching up with everyone in my small little town where I grew up.  It has been a warm welcome that I'm constantly overwhelmed by.  Just five or so weeks ago I was a gal shuffling through town with 9 million other people and now there are about 12,000 of us….of which I think I know 9,000 or so it feels.  Rock and I have walked all over this town with cars honking horns and waves and funny things being yelled at us….constantly being asked if we need a ride somewhere.  So funny.  Making lots of new friends too and pretty much loving every second of it.

I came across this picture of some felt rings I made before I left for China.  They were a simpler version of these topiary rings that were in the International Feltmakers exhibit, On the Map that toured Europe.

When I look at these, I see so many more things I could've done to them.  It's amazing how we grow on the inside—TG.  I'd think life might get pretty dull if we didn't.  My jewelry is still playful, but in different ways I think.  It's something I've been thinking about—our path and our work.  If we revisit the same path with a few more life experiences, how will it look?  A little slower, more thought out, more confident?  These past few weeks have been mind boggling, lots of self discoveries that take up a lot of thinking time…I know you've all been there and I appreciate you hanging on for the ride.  Thank you for all the emails, comments and support.

Wow!

Walnut Hollow has some insanely good deals on their website right now! Check it out!

Blueberry Fields Forever…

Things aren't slowing down around here.  Thankfully so because it makes the days go so fast.  I was supposed to get on a plane Monday back to China to visit Butch, but I decided to postpone.  Work is busy and I wasn't ready to leave Rocker.  On the other hand, it was a little sad because I miss hubs terribly.  Speaking of hubs, I didn't mean to go this long between posts, but I had some billing issues with Typepad saying my address didn't match the card on file.  Hmmmm?  After three days of trying to solve the mystery with emails to Typepad and phone calls to the bank, Butch called this morning and asked what I was doing.  I said, "being frustrated with our bank or Typepad or both." I explained the situation and then he said, "oh, I changed the address awhile back on-line."  Ah ha!  I'm glad I finally mentioned it to him.  Isn't it weird the telephone banker didn't have that in her records though?

I promise, I'm going somewhere with this blueberry theme.  Things are coming along on my book.  I am so excited and nervous about this it.  Tomorrow, I'm shipping a box of my hand collected treasures down for the photo shoot.  It's neat to have the opportunity to add another personal element to the book besides the projects.

The past three weekends Grandpa and I have made our way to the Farmer's market.  I truly look forward to it every week.  The one thing I cannot leave behind is blueberries.  Lately I've been freezing them and eating them like popcorn.  So yummy.  Last weekend I made a batch of muffins to take to some folks, and that was fun.  I've missed doing that while living in China and I've got a lot of catching up to do.  You know, nothing says lovin' like fresh muffins straight from the oven…or so I've heard.

-Grandma's Summer Blueberry Muffins-

The thing I love about these muffins are A: they're grandma's homemade blueberry muffins and B: they are not ultra sweet, but more of a delicate sweet…like not steroid sweet.  Know what I'm sayin?

Makes 2 Dozen, Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees

Sift together: 3 C. flour, 1 C. sugar, 4 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp salt

Mix in: 1/2 C. shortening, 2 eggs, 1 C. milk

Gently fold in: 2 C. blueberries

Fill muffin cups at least 1/2 to 3/4 full and sprinkle with a bit of sugar.  Bake 20-25 minutes.

Yum.  That's all I can say.  Obviously because once those babies were pulled from the oven I was eating them…forgot all about taking a picture of a cute little muffin on a summery napkin like I'd planned. Ha! Next time.  Maybe.  ;-)
